Crochet Pride hairband

Updated: Jan 20

After the hate and terror on the night of 25 June in Oslo, dad wanted to show his solidarity while he was at work the following Monday.

And since he has grown out his hair during the pandemic, he thought it was cool to have a hair braid in the colors of the rainbow.

I was the one who was going to crochet this hairband, so then it became the colors of the progression flag.

Materials

4mm crochet needle

Scissors

Yarn in these colors:

  • White

  • Pink

  • Light blue

  • Brown

  • Black

  • Red

  • Orange

  • Yellow

  • Green

  • Blue

  • Purple

I used 8/4 cotton but you decide what you want to use for yours.

Pattern

A/N: Start and end each row with a long tail (approx. 10 cm)

A/N: Start with either 6 chain stitches in white or foundation single crochet in row 1

  1. In white crochet 6 sc or fsc, finish this first row with a chain stitch and pull a chain thread out of the stitch

  2. In pink make a chain stitch and fasten to row 1, crochet 6 sc , and finish with 1 chain stitch

  3. In light blue make a chain stitch and fasten to row 2, crochet 6 sc, and finish with a chain stitch

  4. In brown, make a chain stitch and fasten to row 3, crochet 6 sc, and finish with a chain stitch

  5. In black make a chain stitch and fasten to row 4, crochet 6 sc, and finish with a chain stitch

  6. In red make a chain stitch and fasten to row 5, crochet 6 sc, and finish with a chain stitch

  7. In orange, make a chain stitch and fasten to row 6, crochet 6 sc, and finish with a chain stitch

  8. In yellow make a chain stitch and fasten to row 7, crochet 6 sc, and finish with a chain stitch

  9. In green make a chain stitch and fasten to row 8, crochet 6 sc, and finish with a chain stitch

  10. In blue, make a chain stitch and fasten to row 9, crochet 6 sc, and finish with a chain stitch

  11. In purple, make a chain stitch and fasten to row 10, crochet 6 sc, and finish with a chain stitch

Repeat rows 1-11 six times

Crochet or sew row 1 and row 66 together

Tie the tails of each row together* around an elastic thread or hair tie

* I recommend either an overhand knot or a figure eight knot

Feel free to cut the tails shorter or completely down to the knots.

A/N: If you leave the tails on, the hair braid will have a similar look to the fake hair braids that you could find everywhere in the early 2000s (see photo 2).

That was it. Use and enjoy
